This study examines how within- and between-polity warfare impact the expansion and contraction of territorial size of polities and centralization and decentralization or regional power to test the hypotheses of contending theories that explain the expansion and contraction of political systems and their networks. This study utilizes spatial simulation modeling to specify the theoretical model. The current study further uses the empirical data of warfare, city size, polity size, and political concentration of East Asian regional system from 1800BCE to 1840CE to test the developed model. In particular, the study is focused on the period from the 1200CE to 1840CE for empirical testing.
